We are excited to recognize JB Wilson as January’s Employee Spotlight! JB is a VP Division Manager for our Richmond Integrated Systems Division and joined VSC in August 2010. We asked JB what originally drew him to VSC, and he recalled the “highly respected name in our local area that related to life safety and Integrated Systems”.
In his fifteen years with VSC, JB has seen the company grow significantly. “The size has relatively tripled,” he said. This growth has expanded beyond just the division, but to corporate and other divisions. “The diversity of backgrounds and industry experiences within our company has expanded exponentially, and I believe we are a much stronger company for it,” he added. JB has grown professionally in his time with VSC, moving from Senior Service Tech to Sales and Project Management and now as a VP Division Manager. “Whether it was time in the field, in the office, or in a management role, I have been able to better develop my industry knowledge, improve my cooperative and collaboration skills, attain several industry certifications, and provide better support to my team. Each aspect of those various roles has helped me not only grow professionally, but as a person, father, and husband,” he reflected.
William Walker, SVP Regional Manager, remembers his first impression of JB. “He is a great leader. He is a team builder and even installed a bell to ring in his office to celebrate being awarded projects and team successes,” William said. “His work performance and job knowledge are second to none. People love working with him because he cares and is concerned with their path forward,” he added.
JB recognizes that people’s lives can be on the line when our products and services come into play and are relied on. “It requires our team to provide the utmost respect for our trade craftsmanship and the delivery of the highest-quality product that we can provide,” he said. JB also emphasized the role our leadership team has on our team and future, stating, “The leadership team is always looking out for the best interest of our team members as much as the company. That truly makes a difference to folks”.
When asked about how JB contributes to VSC’s culture, William said, “JB promotes safety while building a positive culture, strives for his people to take ownership and treat others with respect. He also celebrates success while giving and receiving feedback. He empowers his people to provide life safety services.”
When JB isn’t on the clock, you can find him hunting, fishing, and anything related to being at or on the water. One of his bucket list items is to vacation at an over-the-water bungalow in the Maldives. His first job was cutting grass and doing yard work for his neighbors, and then eventually being a ticket and concessions salesman at a local movie theater.
JB embodies resilience, commitment, and trustworthiness which are part of what makes him stand out. We are grateful to have him as a part of the team and look forward to his future success.
