Building the Future: VSC’s Expanding School Outreach & Growing Talent Pipeline

Building the Future: VSC’s Expanding School Outreach & Growing Talent Pipeline
At VSC Fire & Security, we believe the future of the fire protection and life safety industry depends on a strong, skilled workforce—and that begins with awareness. Too many students graduate high school without ever hearing about fire sprinkler systems, inspections, low voltage work, or design careers, even though these roles protect lives every single day.
That’s why VSC has made it a priority to close the awareness gap through meaningful school engagement, hands-on experiences, and early-career opportunities for students who want to explore the trades.
Engagement & Student Interest Continues to Rise
Over the past year, our outreach efforts have grown significantly, creating real momentum across our footprint:
- 45 high schools engaged across all VSC regions
- 155 students expressed interest in VSC opportunities for 2025
- 81 students (and counting) have expressed interest for the 2025–2026 school year
- 37 seniors
- 30 juniors
- 64 students have already shown interest in our paid summer internship program
These numbers reflect a growing excitement among students—and a growing understanding of the rewarding careers available in the fire protection industry.
Real Experiences, Real Opportunities
Students aren’t just hearing about our industry—they’re stepping into it:
- VSC Georgia is interviewing four intern candidates for two spring internship positions
- VSC Myrtle Beach hosted a senior job shadow, giving a firsthand look at field operations
- VSC Richmond Sprinkler Division is preparing to welcome five pre-apprentices in January
- VSC team members recently served as guest speakers in both Suffolk Schools (VA) and Springdale Schools (AR), inspiring students with stories of real fire protection careers
Every connection helps young people understand that this industry isn’t just about equipment—it’s about protecting lives and building meaningful careers.
Career Fairs & School Events: A Growing Presence
Our teams across the country have been active and engaged:
- 12 school and career events attended in October 2025
- 8 events attended in November 2025
- 22 spring events already scheduled across VSC’s footprint
These events are key moments where students discover their strengths, ask questions, and see themselves in roles they may never have considered before—sprinkler fitter, designer, technician, inspector, project manager, and more.
Investing in Tomorrow’s Workforce
VSC’s outreach, internships, and apprenticeship programs are all part of a long-term strategy: building a strong and sustainable talent pipeline for the fire sprinkler and life safety industry. By partnering with schools, offering early exposure, and creating multiple entry points—from job shadowing to Registered Apprenticeships—we are investing in the people who will protect lives and property for decades to come.
We’re proud of the impact our teams are making. And this is just the beginning.
