Tulsa Divisions Awarded the ABC Excellence in Construction and STEP Awards

Our Tulsa Sprinkler Division was awarded the ABC Excellence in Construction Award on October 30, 2025 at the Osage Casino Event Center in Tulsa. This award is a national recognition given by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) organization. It celebrates outstanding construction projects done by ABC member companies. The award highlights top-quality construction projects that show exceptional craftsmanship, safety, innovation, and teamwork.

Companies submit their projects and are evaluated on things like quality, difficulty, safety, teamwork, problem solving, and how the project exceeded expectations. The project also included a full system demolition and installation of a modern, code-compliant system using corrosion-resistant materials. Winning the award is an honor and truly showcases how a company’s work stands with some of the industry’s best. It is an award that recognizes top-quality construction work.

VSC was responsible for upgrading the fire protection system at the OneOk Parking Garage in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The garage is a four-story structure, and the project included replacing the outdated sprinkler system including 1,900 heads, standpipes, and hose valves over the course of six months. This project was completed with minimal disruption, which ensures enhanced safety, reliability and long-term protection for occupants and the property.

VSC also received the STEP (Safety, Training and Evaluation Process) Award. This award is not based on a single project but is something that is worked toward and is also awarded at the ABC Excellence in Construction dinner. STEP is a program that was developed by ABC for contractors to improve their safety programs and performance. The driving purpose of the award is to provide an organized approach for contractors to evaluate and enhance their safety and loss prevention programs by incorporating OSHA data with self-assessment requirements. 

The benefits of the STEP program include companies being able to pre-qualify work, reduce workers’ compensation costs, prevent OSHA fines, and gain a competitive advantage. There are different levels, ranging from Bronze to Diamond.
