Employee Spotlight: Cree Carter

Cree Carter works on VSC’s Low Voltage Sales team in Richmond, Va. She started working for VSC in March 1998 when we were known by our founding name, Virginia Sprinkler Company. Cree was impressed by what she had heard about the company culture and decided to apply for a career. The division was starting an alarms team, and Cree had the opportunity to interview for a position with Marty Giles, former President of VSC. 

Cree has seen VSC grow from being the “house on the hill” to over 20 locations currently in operation. When asked what her favorite part about working at VSC is, she said, “Our job directly affects lives every day, even when the building occupants don’t have any understanding of how a sprinkler system works or why those noisy audibles have to sound.” Cree is proud of her role in upholding VSC’s mission of providing reliable life safety. She said, “Always do the job right, no matter the cost — it’s important because it is life safety.” 

Estimating the cost of a job once the design phase is completed is one the biggest challenges of Cree’s job. She’s proven herself adept at it over her 26-year career with VSC. Her proudest achievement at VSC is whenever she receives positive feedback from a customer. She recognized that her achievements have not come without the work of the VSC team. Cree celebrates the amazing work of our design team and their ability to solve problems before they ever get to the field. 

When Cree is not at the office you can find her at Sunset Grill, a casual restaurant with great homestyle food. Her favorite Netflix show is “Outlander.” Cree also enjoys gardening and antique shopping.

The best advice Cree has received: “When things don’t work out, they weren’t meant to be. Something better is just around the corner. It usually holds true, sometimes it’s a long way to the corner. “

JB thought it was clear from day one that Cree was the right salesperson and project manager to handle their division’s most intricate and high-level projects. He first met her when he was a field technician and they worked together on complex projects. JB quickly learned that Cree contributes to company culture with her positive attitude and her constant collaboration with her team. Cree’s approach to projects and customer solutions ensures that her team is always working in sync to make sure the customer is satisfied. 

“Cree treats her customers as though they were family. She shares open and fair opinions with them while maintaining accountabilities for all parties involved. She ensures they always receive high-quality installations, along with high-quality communication throughout the project. This has served her and VSC very well over the years. She has developed some of the strongest customer relationships I have ever seen,” said JB. 

JB has known Cree to always be a leader in ensuring we stay on the cutting-edge of current technology to provide the best protection to our customers.

“Cree has produced an amazing career with VSC, and she deserves everything retirement has to offer when she finally exits.”
