Employee Spotlight: Jay Ratcliff
Posted on January 30, 2025 by Katie Meehan
At VSC Fire & Security, we take pride in recognizing the dedicated individuals who make our team exceptional. This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Jay Ratcliff, Project Manager, who joined VSC on May 20, 2024. With his wealth of experience and commitment to quality, Jay has quickly made an impact.
Jay didn’t initially seek out VSC—VSC found him. A former colleague reached out and encouraged him to join the company, and since coming on board, he’s seen firsthand how VSC is growing, adding new team members, and expanding its capabilities.
When asked what sets VSC apart from other companies, Jay highlighted the company’s commitment to equipping its team with the right tools and training—something that makes a real difference in getting the job done efficiently and effectively.
Jay connects most with VSC’s mission of providing high-quality, functional fire systems that keep people safe. One of his proudest accomplishments is getting the fire system at Tyson Foods up and running—a challenging but rewarding project. Coordinating schedules and ensuring the right people are on the right jobs can be tough, but Jay thrives on problem-solving and keeping things running smoothly.
When asked about his favorite part of working at VSC, Jay joked that it’s “Payday!!” But truly, it’s the people and the positive work environment that he enjoys most. Since joining the team, Jay has been most impressed with how much VSC invests in its employees, from training to equipment.
Jay’s supervisor, Robbie Braun, VP Division Manager of Low Voltage, describes him as punctual, professional, and dedicated. From day one, Jay has jumped into unfamiliar systems, taken over unfinished jobs, and seen them through to completion. His drive to improve himself and mentor others has made a lasting impact on the team.
“Every day he’s here, he strives to be the best,” says Robbie. “He holds himself to a high standard and expects the same from those around him.”
Outside of work, Jay enjoys deer hunting and is more of a video game player than a TV watcher. His favorite local restaurant is Luigi’s Pizza. He’s a dedicated reader of The Bible. Going on an Alaskan moose hunting trip is at the top of his bucket list. And if you’re ever in a conversation with Jay, don’t be surprised if he keeps you laughing—his humor is a daily highlight for his coworkers.
While Jay says it’s too soon to tell how he’s grown professionally at VSC, his supervisor sees big things ahead. If you ask Robbie where Jay will be in five years, he jokes: “In a deer stand.” But in reality, Jay is a leader in the making, and his ability to think outside the box—like when he created new pathways for an alarm system that didn’t exist—sets him apart.
And if Jay had a theme song? “Long Haired Country Boy” by The Charlie Daniels Band.
Jay embodies the dedication, craftsmanship, and teamwork that define VSC Fire & Security. We’re grateful to have him on our team and look forward to seeing all he accomplishes in the years to come.
