Posted on December 2, 2024 by Katie Meehan
At VSC Fire & Security, our strength lies in our people, and we take great pride in those who exemplify our mission and values as thoroughly as Justin Houser. Since joining VSC in February 2007, Justin has built an impressive career, starting as a Helper in the field and growing into his current role as a Project Manager and Estimator in the Virginia Beach office.
After leaving the Navy, Justin sought a way to support himself while pursuing a degree in drafting and design. A friend who worked at VSC introduced him to the company. Over the years, Justin has witnessed the company evolve in many ways, particularly in its focus on prioritizing employee growth and retention through apprenticeship programs and training opportunities. These efforts have fostered an environment where employees like Justin can thrive and achieve their career goals.
Reflecting on his time at VSC, Justin shared, “My proudest achievement is starting as a Helper in the field and working my way up to Project Manager/Estimator. Each role I’ve held has taught me invaluable lessons that I apply to my current position.”
When asked about which part of the VSC mission he connects with the most, Justin replied: integrity. He takes pride in knowing the services his team provides keep customers safe and secure. Balancing multiple roles within his position has been one of his greatest challenges, but Justin’s strong work ethic and dedication have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
When he’s not managing projects or estimating jobs, Justin enjoys a variety of hobbies, including Jeep adventures on the beach, sim racing, and golfing. His current favorite local spot to grab a bite to eat is Vino Italian Bistro in Chesapeake. His go-to Netflix shows include Forensic Files and Ancient Aliens. Justin also enjoys diving into intriguing reads like Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Däniken.
Notes from Justin’s Supervisor: Bob Garrett, VP Division Manager:
Bob Garrett commends Justin’s steady rise from Helper to Large Contract Sales, noting, “Justin started green in 2007 and worked his way up through various roles in just 15 years. He’ll be successful in any position he fills.”
Bob also highlighted that Justin is known for his solid, thorough, and determined work ethic. Additionally, Justin plays a pivotal role in mentoring new hires. His approachability and willingness to provide guidance foster a strong sense of teamwork.
In five years, Bob envisions Justin excelling as an Operations or District Manager, confidently taking on new challenges and responsibilities. With his dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence, there’s no doubt that Justin will continue to leave a lasting impact at VSC.
Justin’s journey at VSC is a testament to what’s possible when hard work meets opportunity. His dedication to growth, leadership, and teamwork reflects the very best of what VSC stands for.
Thank you, Justin, for your dedication to VSC Fire & Security and for embodying the values that make our company what it is today.
