This month we are happy to highlight Randy Gilliam as the Employee Spotlight. Randy is a Sprinkler Salesman at our Fort Smith Division and joined VSC in 2025. When Randy was looking to apply with VSC, he was drawn to working for a “well respected company in the industry. Having the opportunity to be part of the company and help grow the new Ft. Smith Division was of great importance in my decision to apply,” he said.
Even though Randy joined us this year, he has seen VSC grow. The Fort Smith Division is “moving forward and becoming well recognized in the western Arkansas area,” he stated. Randy is passionate about providing customers with the best service and quality in a manner that exemplifies integrity and reliability. “The team atmosphere provides a setting that allows these traits to be readily promoted to the customer,” he explained.
Coleman Farrar, VP Division Manager of Fort Smith, remembers his first impression of Randy “being a sharper than average person with attention to detail.” He went on to explain how “Randy is always ready to jump on anything that needs to be done. He works diligently on the fire sprinkler estimates he prepares and goes the extra mile to make sure everything is covered or addressed. His work on a recent quote for a retail store was extraordinary. It was an extremely complex project, and he did an outstanding job working many long days to develop a clear plan of execution should we get the job.”
We asked Randy how VSC was different from other companies, and he emphasized VSC’s ability to provide opportunities to connect with the customer on all aspects of their fire protection needs. His proudest achievement since being here is “being a part of the team.” Randy has grown professionally since joining us. “Becoming familiar with and understanding more about the structure of the company has afforded me the opportunity to better serve the customer. The atmosphere feels more like a family environment than a large corporate setting,” he said.
Coleman also said he has shared significant amounts of his own knowledge with Randy to help him grow and understand more about the business aspect of what we do. “Randy’s honesty and reliability are assets to VSC. He is friendly and welcoming to anyone he meets, whether they are a customer or an employee. He is open and honest and delivers quality projects,” he stated.
When Randy is not at work, you can find him hunting, fishing, or woodworking. On his bucket list, he would love to go fishing in the Florida Keys. He also loves to watch anything on The Cooking Channel. Over the years, Randy has been given advice, but his favorite advice has been a quote by William Feather that says: “An education isn’t how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It’s being able to differentiate between what you do know and what you don’t. It’s knowing where to go to find out what you need to know, and it’s knowing how to use the information once you get it.”
We are so glad Randy is a part of the team and wish him many more years of success with us.
