Employee Spotlight: Stan Yielding
Stan Yielding is the Inspections Manager in VSC’s Rogers Sprinkler Division. He started his sprinkler career 12 years ago with Arkansas Automatic Sprinkler, continuing his fire protection journey when VSC acquired AAS in 2017.
Stan was interested in joining the trade and had a friend who worked on our team, leading him to apply back in 2012. In his time with VSC, he watched his team grow and has seen the company expand to 25 locations across the Southeast. Stan noted that he has been impressed with VSC’s commitment to safety no matter the size of our company’s footprint.
When asked his favorite part about working at VSC, Stan said, “working with the people I get to work with every day, whether it’s my coworkers or our customers.” From starting as a technician to managing the Inspections team, Stan has always been able to relate to his younger coworkers. His proudest achievement at VSC has been seeing a helper that he trained become a lead technician and find his place in the trade.
Stan has long appreciated the support the other divisions at VSC provide each other. He was surprised by the strong camaraderie that spans over the states VSC is located in. He explained that he is also impressed by the company’s commitment to training, stating, “VSC’s willingness and encouragement to go to training, whether it be as a technician or a manager, is a vital part to my success and my team’s.”
In his free time, Stan can be found visiting his favorite restaurant Hammontree’s, watching his favorite show “Peaky Blinders” or playing golf. Stan is a proud Arkansas Razorbacks fan and one of his bucket list items is to attend a national championship game in which the Hogs are playing football, basketball or baseball. You may also find him raving about Michael Jordan – “the greatest basketball player ever,” as Stan says.
When asked about the best advice he’s ever heard, Stan said, “there’s no point in worrying about what you can’t control.”
Notes from Stan’s Supervisor:
Marty On The Hill is the vice president and division manager of the Rogers Sprinkler division.
The first time that Marty worked with Stan, he noticed his exemplary work ethic and great sense of humor. Marty enjoys reminding teammates and new hires about the time Stan lost a friendly bet and had to wear a shirt at work featuring the logo of the University of Oklahoma, the rival of Stan’s favorite team, the University of Arkansas.
Stan is a leader in the Inspections department, and Marty notes that Stan always strives to do inspections the right way, ensuring that each customer’s system is at optimal compliance. Stan also takes a lot of pride in mentoring young professionals at VSC. Marty says that Stan makes himself available for questions and hands-on training from new hires and long-term employees alike.
Marty also expressed that Stan takes the initiative when it comes to the success of his team. He has worked to crosstrain his inspectors on all aspects of fire protection inspection.
Outside of work, Stan attends youth job fairs and introduces fire protection as a career option, something for which Marty had high praise. He also applauds Stan for his commitment to being an industry representative at State Fire Marshal meetings.
Marty’s best piece of advice for Stan is to, “continue to learn and take advantage of the resources out there with AFSA, NFPA and NICET.”
We also reached out to Stan’s former supervisor of 12 years, Stephen Bitely. Stan worked with Stephen as a helper at VSC’s inspection department in the Cabot office. He echoes Marty in championing Stan for his mentorship of new and young employees and his willingness to train, work with and demonstrate tasks for any employee on the job.
Bitely has continued to stay connected with Stan through fire protection and community events, remarking, “Stan goes above and beyond every day. I promise that if someone asks Stan to do something, he will do it to the best of his ability.”
Stan continues to achieve great things and lead his inspection team to success. From the entire VSC team, thank you for being a valued member of our team.
