Employee Spotlight: Elizabeth McKoy-Proctor

Elizabeth McKoy-Proctor has been a part of the VSC family since May 2019. She came to us with over 20 years of experience in the medical field and chose to pivot her career into something new.

Elizabeth works in Inspection Sales at the Springfield, VA office. In her time with us, she has seen the number of our offices grow and advancements in safety features for our technicians. Elizabeth’s favorite part of working at VSC is her access to the wealth of knowledge about life safety with regard to fire sprinkler systems and fire alarm panels. 

“I NEVER knew all that was involved prior to working with VSC,” said Elizabeth. “I really enjoy the people I work with and the feeling of a job well done when I have finished for the day.”

When it comes to VSC’s mission, Elizabeth strives to give every customer her best.

Elizabeth’s proudest achievement at VSC was when her supervisor entrusted her to take on the Knox Program for her office. She also feels encouraged by other offices reaching out to her for assistance. Elizabeth is a team player through and through. 

“Upper management saw something in me and wanted me to be a part of the VSC Team. To switch from the medical field and learn so much about life safety and sales and then to be chosen as the Knox Trusted Partner for our office has been my biggest professional growth yet. I am always looking to learn more and grow with VSC.”

When asked what she thought the biggest misconception about her position was, Elizabeth explained that it takes a lot of initiative to learn the necessary background information needed to carry out the job.

A: Believe in yourself, it truly makes a difference.

A: I’d love to own a Hartley Greenhouse.

James Walter, VP and Division Manager, is Elizabeth’s direct supervisor and we wanted to hear his thoughts on Elizabeth’s work with VSC. 

His first impression of Elizabeth was that she was an attentive and smart individual, and she was ready to get to work. He was involved in her initial interview with the previous Division Manager and knew that she was going to be a key player on VSC’s team. 

“Elizabeth always goes above and beyond anytime help is required from other divisions,” said James. “She’s always in a good mood and she’ll brighten your day with her smile and eagerness to help anyone needing assistance.”  

She’s learned the intricacies and differences when working in the construction industry and her quick transition from the medical field was extremely impressive. She’s even helped to streamline difficult processes and initiate simplified solutions for her team. 

Elizabeth’s consideration and respect to her fellow employees and to customers continues to raise the bar. She’s consistent, timely and extremely driven in her work. In five years, James wouldn’t be surprised to see Elizabeth running a service department at VSC. 

She has been involved in training employees on VSC protocols for Inspection Deficiencies and Knox products, even assisting in training employees in other VSC locations. If James had to describe Elizabeth with a song title, it’d be “Taking Care of Business” by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. 

Elizabeth’s persistence and joy help her take care of business, and we’re humbled to have such a hard worker on our team. VSC is truly made better by Elizabeth‘s service!
